Southern California Plein Air Painters Association

SOCALPAPA Founder and first president was Margaret “Maggie” Jamison. The club started in 2001 as a small, informal gathering of painters from Jeff Horn’s painting class at Irvine Valley College.

From a small group to a much larger one today, the objectives remain the same: bring artists together – both experienced and new – share knowledge, promote arts education, and exhibit work in a supportive and friendly environment. SOCALPAPA has done this successfully for 20 years now as a “not-for-profit” entity!

The club sponsors many opportunities throughout the year for members to learn and grow as artists. In addition, the organization has developed community partnerships with key institutions in Southern California. Among these are the Newport Bay Conservancy, OC Parks and the Muth Interpretive Center at the Back Bay.

Maggie Jamison and Jeff Horn laid the foundation for SOCALPAPA over 20 years ago, and today the club continues to be a vibrant and important resource for plein air painters throughout Southern California.
