Plans for the next three days will include:

- Meeting Tuesday morning in Cambria on Moonstone Beach to get acquainted, explore new locations and paint on California's central coast.
- Access some of the private properties that have spectacular barns, including the Piedras Blancas Light House.
- We may will also be able to meet and paint with the local plein air club from Cambria.
- And also a nocturne.

Travel, lodging and meals will on your own - there are lots of good spots to choose from.

Cambria is a charming seaside village between San Francisco and Los Angeles along Coast Highway 1. Situated amidst coastal native Monterey pines, t
here are no corporate chain stores or franchise businesses other than the Chevron and Shell gas stations. Everything is privately owned and operated. Population 5500, Cambria and neighboring Cayucos and are loaded with places to stay and eat well... plus:

  • Art galleries, antique shops and plenty of activities to do even if your are not a painter
  • People there are very friendly
  • After San Louis Obispo north on HWY1 you'll pass Hollister Peak - this was an icon for painters of the early California Impressionist era and is still so today
  • You next come to Morro Bay with its bay and the iconic Morrow Bay Rock
  • Turning north, you then come into Cayucos, followed by Harmony and Cambria, and then San Simeon (Hearst Castle), the Piedras Blancas Light House and Ragged Point (hiking and scenic drive).

If you have never been in this area before, you may want to just drive up the coast and take photos for studio use later. Hope the weather is good, it can be from beautiful to cold, wet, windy, and foggy. Bring your paints, hiking shoes and cameras... and be prepared for a very MEMORABLE TRIP!
